What is Wood Badge
Wood Badge training began in 1919 by Baden Powell to ensure that the leaders of Scout Troops were properly trained. Relying on a century of Scouting, Wood Badge draws upon the most current leadership models used by corporate America, academic circles and successful organizations throughout the country to present the latest in leadership theory and team development to a new generation of Scout leaders.
Purpose of Wood Badge
The primary purpose of the Wood Badge experience is simple – to strengthen Scouting in our units, districts, and Council. Every Scout deserves a well-trained leader. It provides dedicated Scouters with the concepts, tools and methods needed to be effective leaders. Wood Badge creates a structured opportunity to develop apply critical leadership skills. Leadership is a skill that is used everywhere, daily.
Attending Wood Badge will make your Scouting job easier. Attendees gain an in-depth understanding of the skills of leadership. The skills you learn will help you become a more effective leader in Scouting, your career, your family, and your community life.
Outcome
As the five-day practical portion of the program draws to a close, you will set some personal goals (a.k.a. ticket) to practice your new knowledge and skills. (You will have 18 months to complete your ticket)
By practicing your new knowledge and skills, you will become a more effective leader. In addition to your own personal growth, the Scouts you serve will benefit most from your development commitment.
Who May Attend
• Be registered member of the Scouting America. (Youth 18 and older may attend as long as the appropriate Youth Protection guidelines are followed).
• Have completed the basic training courses for your Scouting position.
What Can You Expect
As a result of attending Wood Badge, you will:
- Acquire a global view of Scouting as a family of Interrelated, value-based programs providing age-appropriate activities for youth.
- Become familiar with contemporary team leadership concepts.
- Experience the stages of team development and practice leadership approaches appropriate for those stages.
- Have a great deal of fun in the company of interesting, like-minded individuals.
- Develop a renewed commitment to provide Scouting with the best possible leadership.
Wood Badge accomplishes these goals by building all the pieces of the course on a foundation of five central themes. Those themes, and the presentations that directly support them, are as follows:

Physical Demands
Wood Badge includes a series of fun and educational training activities. The greatest physical demands are walking around camp and playing some simple games—nothing that should keep anyone from attending. If you have mobility concerns, the course can make efforts for accommodations when given early notification. A current Health and Medical Record (Parts A, B and C) is required.
Course Fee
- $325, if paid by 5/1/2025, $350 after 6/1/2025 - A $100 deposit is due at time of registration.
Fees cover program and training materials, food, facilities, and one participant t-shirt. A $100 non-refundable deposit is required to secure a spot. Balance is due by July 1, 2025.
