Extraordinary Explorers

During these challenging times, a ray of positivity could make the difference in someone’s day. Today’s publication will highlight the experiences had by Logan Schumm and the knowledge he has gained as a Law Enforcement Explorer. His Post Advisor, Deputy Mitch Karner, had this to say about Explorer Schumm, “He has been very dedicated to our Post since he started not too long ago. I don't believe he has missed a meeting or an event. Very respectful and hardworking."

Currently a student at New Bremen Local Schools, Logan is enjoying his time in the program. “I joined the Explorer program so I could become more familiar with law enforcement.”

As with all Explorers, students learn about certain aspects of the career field they never knew before. “One thing I have learned about law enforcement that I previously did not know is how to fill out an accident report.” These experiences not only allow students to become familiar with the process but demonstrates the need for accuracy and focuses on being detail oriented.

The adult leadership within every Exploring program is vital to the success of the unit and quality of programming. Logan spoke to the great leadership shown by the deputies of the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office, “The adults in this program have personally impacted me by raising myself confidence in my decisions I make.”

When asked about his favorite meeting topic so far, Schumm had no problem drawing a bead on the activity. “My favorite meeting activity was role playing traffic stops. I enjoyed this because it was a hands-on experience on how to conduct traffic stops in a safe and professional manner.”

Logan hopes to someday work for the agency that has afforded him this opportunity, “My future career aspirations are to become a Deputy Sheriff at the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office after the Marine Corps or college.”
