Top Popcorn Seller has eyes on Adventure

For Riley Becker, high adventure Scouting is his motivation for selling popcorn. The Troop 914 Life Scout’s efforts resulted in him becoming the top seller with $12,055.

“I’m planning on attending the National Jamboree again,” Riley shared. “It was an amazing time and I’m looking forward to going again”

As part of the unit’s rewards program, Scouts can earn credit toward Scouting activities to help further their Scouting experience.

“We are also planning to go to Philmont next year, so the popcorn sale will help me with this trek as well,” Riley added.

Troop 914 also finished as the top selling unit with $26,935. Led by unit Kernel Julie Becker (Riley’s mom) the group has been one of the top selling units in council recently. The Becker family was outstanding this year, selling a combined $19,895. Trevor sold $4,235 for Troop 914, and sister Macie finished $3,605 for Troop 914G. Last year, Riley sold $2,491.

The other top selling units this year, were Pack 309, with $23,216; Pack 8, with $22,315; Pack 319, with $20,860; Troop 75, with $15,085; Troop 8, with $11,450; and Troop 777, with $10,125.

“I want to give a huge SHOUTOUT to all the Scouts who participated in the Fall product sale this year as it was a tremendous success,” said Council Kernel Ted Blum. “With an increase of nearly 14 percent over last year’s sale, the return to Pecatonica Rivers Popcorn proofed the great tasting popcorn and designer tins as packaging, were a big reason for the success.”

If anyone is still interested in purchasing popcorn, please contact Jim Mason at the council office at Jim.Mason@Scouting.org or 567.208.5267, or stop by the Findlay Service Center, 2100 Broad Ave., Findlay, during normal office hours Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Units are permitted to continue selling products.

Overall, the sales have resulted in $248,356 at this time. With the extra popcorn currently in-house in Findlay, a few additional sales could happen before the holiday season. Last year, council finished with $218,893.

A big reason for the overall increase is there were 60 units participating in ordering while just 37 were involved in 2024.
