What does it mean to be an Eagle Scout?
How does one become an Eagle Scout?

What adventures do Scouts encounter along the path to becoming an Eagle?
These are common questions to someone who hasn’t achieved the rank of Eagle. 
Becoming an Eagle Scout is a high accomplishment helping prepare individuals for life. With only an approximated 6% of Scouts who join earning this honor, it tends to mean these individuals will soar to new heights!

Maria Stein Troop 97 celebrates 4 Eagles

681 hours of community service logged during projects

On July 24, an Eagle Court of Honor was conducted for the newest Eagle Scouts from Maria Steins Troop 97. Troop 97 is chartered by American Legion Post 571 in Maria Stein.

All four Eagle Scouts are from the Maria Stein area and attended the Marion Local School. All four also all were members of Cub Scout Pack 97, where they all earned their Arrow of Light award.

Ben’s Eagle Scout project involved the refurbishing of old and damaged picnic tables at the Chickasaw Community Park. The project returned the picnic tables to a safe and usable condition. Ben spent approximately 36 hours along with the help of 71 hours from other volunteers for a combined total of 107 service hours.

Carson’s Eagle Scout project involved the building and installation of a GaGa Ball court at the Marion Township Park. The project involved the procuring of all material, building and installing the GaGa ball pit. Carson spent approximately 90 hours along with the help of 140 hours from other volunteers for a combined total of 230 service hours.

Troy’s Eagle Scout project involved the restoration of a playground at the American Legion Post 571. The project involved repainting, updating and installing new playground equipment, and the removal of several safety hazards. Troy spent approximately 75 hours along with the help of 127 hours from other volunteers for a combined total of 202 service hours.

Simon’s Eagle Scout project involved the designing, construction, and landscaping of a safety barrier installation at The Montezuma Spiritual Center Retreat House. The project provided a 50-foot-long, 6-foot-high fence that provides safety to visitors. Simon spent approximately 64 hours along with the help of 78 hours from other volunteers for a combined total of 142 service hours.

  • Carson went before the review board and earned his Eagle rank on- March 3rd, 2022
  • Simon went before the review board and earned his Eagle rank on- March 24th, 2022
  • Troy went before the review board and earned his Eagle rank on- April 7th, 2022
