Sherri Garner Brumbaugh Selected to Central Region Board

Congratulations to long-time volunteer and Black Swamp Area Council President Sherri Garner Brumbaugh on her new role as Regional Board Member for the Boy Scouts of America, Central Region. Sherri will still be working here at the Troop level and Council level, but she will also be attending important meetings in the Region representing the Black Swamp Area. She takes this role very seriously. “I’m the type of person that (when I) put my name in the ring, I want to be involved.”

Sherri likes to say, “My father was a Scout, I married a Boy Scout, and I’m the mother of three Scouts, so I think it was kind of destiny that I would be involved.”

She has done everything with Scouting from being a committee member with a Pack and Troop, to being a Den Leader for 32 boys, to helping with Boards of Reviews, and was also the first female President for our Council. Sherri is a Silver Beaver Award recipient and has gone through Wood Badge.

During Sherri’s time as Council President, she was faced with a couple opportunities. Her second month on the job, the National Boy Scouts of America rolled out Family of Scouting and introduced girls to all levels of the BSA program. Sherri thought her position as a Council President during this important change in the movement was, “a great example of leadership for our Council "  and commented that this was a "right place, right time" moment, with her being the first female Council President, and with girls having the opportunity to participate in all BSA programs.

Not only does Sherri work hard as a Scout volunteer, but she is a woman in leadership as well. She owns and manages her family business, Garner Trucking, which is celebrating 60 years in the industry. She started off as a music teacher, but Garner Trucking became her passion and she found she was good at it and enjoyed it. Sherri also helps with the University of Findlay, as a Board of Trustee, Co-Chair of the Advancement Committee, and is an advisory board member and Adjunct Professor with the School of Business. Being a lover of dogs, she is also on the board for the Humane Society of Hancock County. She also volunteers for the American Heart Association, Wreaths Across America and within her church community, where she is a percussionist for her church's choir.
