Black Swamp travels to space

Did you know 27 years ago this week, Black Swamp Area Council went to space?

We have celebrated the historical Moon Landing and First Man to Walk on the Moon in 1969 by Neil Armstrong, who is from our Council and Wapakoneta. But did you know, during the week of Nov. 3-14, 1994, as part of NASA’s “Mission to Planet Earth” aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis, STS-66, a Black Swamp Area Council Shoulder Patch was part of the payload?

Exploring opens for high school students

Exploring is a unique career exploration program for young men and women ages 10-20, providing students with an opportunity to learn about a wide variety of career fields and network with professionals already in these fields. Scouting in the Black Swamp Area Council began in 1915 when the Scouting program was introduced to the young people of West Central and Northwestern Ohio.More than 5,400 individuals are participating in the local program as a Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturers, Explorers and adult volunteers.
