Health and Safety Minute
Propane Cooking
As the days and nights get colder, Scouts and Scouters will be looking for ways to stay warm and cook meals efficiently while at camp.
Safety and environmental awareness concerns have persuaded many campers to move away from traditional outdoor campfires in favor of chemical-fueled equipment used for cooking, heating, and lighting. Because chemical fuels and equipment create very different hazards than traditional wood, charcoal, and other solid fuels, the BSA has provided a number of resources to help councils address those hazards.
Please take a moment this month to review the BSA's guidance on the use of propane and other chemical fuels (available online here), and share with your team, camp staff, and key volunteers.
