Florida National High Adventure Sea Base, in concert with BSA Program Development, will launch a new marine-based educational adventure in 2017.  Citizen science, including data collection, coral conservation, and shark education will provide the educational basis for the program. Components of current adventures, such as snorkeling, ocean kayaking, boating, underwater robotics and fishing will provide the vehicle for discovery.  Every learning module will be accompanied by an ocean-based adventure.  For example: Scouts will learn about coral reef ecosystems, and then take that knowledge with them as they snorkel the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.  While snorkeling, Scouts will collect data to share with Mote Marine Laboratories, NOAA, Reef Environmental Education Foundation, and other professional research agencies.

As you probably know, marine education is not new to Florida Sea Base. Over the last several years Sea Base has offered STEM Eco Sailing Adventures.  Scout participants rate STEM Eco as one of the best programs offered at Sea Base.  This rating is largely due to the explorative and adventurous nature of the program.  Simply put, the program is fun.  Marine STEM Adventure will follow the STEM Eco Sailing Adventure premise that in order to achieve an objective the program must be exciting.

Sea Base is limiting reservations to council contingent crews in 2017 and spaces are extremely limited.  A crew consists of 6 to 8 participants with a minimum of 2 adults.   If interested, you must act quickly.  Please contact Mike Saxton, High Adventure Chair at jmsaxton823@gmail.com or 419-439-2079 for more information.
