Venture Crew 8 plays pivotal part in local police memorial

Members of Venture Crew 8 helped with preparation for the annual Police Memorial Service on May 3 at the FOP Hall/Lima Scout Office on west Robb Avenue. The service honors local officers who have given their lives in the line of duty.

At the May 1 meeting, Crew members devoted to preparing the Police Memorial area for the annual Memorial Service. Before the Pledge of Allegiance could be recited, the flag had to be replaced because very strong winds had damaged it. Crew member Jalen, with the help of his Dad, did the job and they prepared the damaged flag for the required respectful disposal.

Then the Crew members went to work laying down new mulch, cleaning the memorial and generally cleaning up the area. They did a great job. 

Two days later, more than 20 organizations including the Ohio State Police, the Allen County Sheriff’s Office and the Lima Police Department participated in the Memorial Service later. The Venture Crew was included in the program list.

The Memorial Wreaths were presented as “Echoing Taps" were played from two cornets in the woods.
