Cyber Chip Award for all Hancock County Youth provided by the Black Swamp Area Council, Boy Scouts of America in partnership with a grant from the Hancock Community Foundation

Today’s youth are spending more time than ever using digital media for education, research, socializing, and fun. To help families and volunteers keep youth safe while online, the Boy Scouts of America introduced the Cyber Chip Award. In developing this exciting tool, the BSA teamed up with content expert NetSmartz®, which is part of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children® including training experts for many law enforcement agencies.

Youth in Hancock County who earn the Cyber Chip Award during 2019 will be provided the recognition patch or pin (the pin is for Scouts that do the annual update) and pocket card through a grant from the Hancock Community Foundation. This program is incorporated into several of Cub Scouting (Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos and the Arrow of Light) and Scouts BSA (Scout and Star) rank requirements.  To receive the Cyber Chip patch or recharge pin and pocket card, current Cub Scouts or Scouts BSA members need to provide the completion certificate from the online training to their Scout leaders, who will submit the Cyber Chip Report form and Unit Advancement Report to the Findlay Scout Shop.

Cyber Chip Report Form:    PDF    Excel

Non- Scouts can also take their Cyber Chip training with the permission of their parents.  Non-Scouts can bring their completion certificate to the Findlay Scout Shop, located at 2100 Broad Ave to receive their patch and pocket card.

Netsmartz® has created a Scouting portal showcasing Cyber Chip resources, including grade-specific videos, for each level. Check it out here.

Topics include cyberbullying, cell phone use, texting, blogging, gaming, and identity theft.

The council will be holding a community youth protection forum at Camp Berry, that will include, a session on the Cyber Chip Program and the Boy Scouts of America Youth Protection Program and Training on the evening of Monday, June 17, 6:30pm at Camp Berry.  This training is designed for adults involved with youth development programs and parents.  Light refreshments will be served.  Please pre-register at this link.
