Curt Brookhart receives the Silver Antelope Award from the Central Region Of the Boy Scouts of America

The Silver Antelope Award, created in 1942, is the regional-level distinguished award of the Boy Scouts of America.  Recipients of this award are registered volunteer Scouters of exceptional character in their region who are recognized for their distinguished service to youth.  Volunteers are the engine of the Scouting movement.  Without volunteers Scouting would not be able to impact over 2.2 million youth nationwide.  Annually, the Boy Scouts of America recognizes a select few of these volunteers with the Silver Antelope Award.

The Black Swamp Area Council is fortunate enough to have one of those exceptional volunteers among its leadership.  Curt Brookhart of New Bremen, who currently serves as the council’s vice president of program on the volunteer board of directors, was one of the 6 recipients of the Silver Antelope in the Central Region.  The award was presented at the Central Region Luncheon as part of the Boy Scouts National meeting in Denver this past May.  The Central Region of the Boy Scouts of America covers the states of Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, Wisconsin, and parts of Indiana, Kentucky, Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Curt has a distinguished record of service to Scouting locally and on the regional level.  His service includes staffing several Wood Badge courses (advance Scout leader training), serving as a course director, staffing national camp school, national and world jamborees, as well as serving on the national camp accreditation visitation teams.  He has also served on the unit, district and council level in various capacities including Scoutmaster, District Chair and board member.

On Thursday August 29 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 PM a reception to honor Curt locally will be held at St John the Baptist Parish, 109 N Main St, Glandorf, OH 45848 in the School Cafeteria.  Light refreshments will be served.  Please RSVP to Marc Kogan to let us know if you plan on attending at Marc.Kogan@scouting.org
