Construction City at Camp Berry

New this year, the Family Camps have changed.   They are no longer being offered during the 3 months in the summer and all three are going to be themed based in their activities.    The first camp which is going to be early May has a construction theme base.   Scouts and their adult partner will be building a construction city at Camp Berry.   Intrigued?  Read on…..

Arrival to this camp will be Friday evening after dinner – the 5:30 p.m. registration will direct you to your sleeping quarters (all indoor) and program will begin at 6:30 in Donnell Lodge.   The first thing on the agenda will be to place everyone in groups of 6 to 8 scouts to work together.   HINT – if you want to be with a specific person or group – please register together and let us know.  But, if not, it is always fun to meet new people.  There will be a guest speaker and a small group activity to complete before cracker barrel and lights out for the evening.   This group activity will be part of the judging the next day.

Wake up Saturday morning to breakfast and right to work.   You will be designing and constructing a cardboard building of your choice.   You will need to have it approved through the zoning commission and you will be given funds to purchase your supplies.   You will have a designated zoned area to start your building.   Remember – you will be judged on this.   Lunch will grab and go, so as to not lose the creativity happening on your building.   Construction will stop before dinner with a debriefing from the day and a walk through for everyone to see all that has been created.   Judging will happen during dinner and the awards ceremony immediately after dinner.    Final activity is to demolish the creations and clean up the area.

An activity similar to this was done many years ago during Day Camp and some of the buildings that appeared were the Statue of Liberty, Fifth Third Field, a hospital parking garage, a haunted house and an outhouse.   Just to give you some ideas.
